Say what you are going to do and do what you say you will do. Such is Rifco Inc. (TSXV:RFC)
In the past, I have reported on small cap companies with bad practices; those who spend big money on investor relations services and have little to show for it to their shareholders: See - 2 IR firms and big losses.
How about a story of a small cap company that spends much less on investor relations (IR) but has rewarded its shareholders?
Check out Rifco Inc. (TSXV: RFC), a fast growing and very profitable auto finance company based in Red Deer, Alberta.
From what I can tell, Rifco has no IR firm representing nor do they spend big bucks on stock promotion. Rather, for the most part, Rifco's management communicates its story to investors in one simple press release.
For several years running, Rifco has released its business objectives at beginning of each fiscal year. The Company's annual press release clearly states a set of financial objectives that current and potential shareholders can use to monitor this investment. The press release provides the transparency for investors to understand the financial position of Rifco and also creates credibility for its senior management team.
At Rifco, they deployed a simple IR strategy: Say what you are going to do and do what you say you will do.
The Company has consistently met and exceeded its financial objectives year after year. If history repeats, based on this year's objectives, fiscal 2013 results should be more of the same, which is good for Rifco shareholders.
However, Rifco's best investor relations tool may be its commitment to profitability, which Management has achieved, partly by saving the big money paid for stock promotions that other and lesser small cap companies spend.
The proof that Rifco's IR strategy works? The Company's stock price has traded up to all-time high levels.
I am not surprised.
