Average total current returns grew by 47% in 2019. Several stocks hit all-time highs, driving the average for the high-point return for all of Investorfile’s Top Ideas to 318% since inception.

While it did not always feel like 2019 would turn out to be great year for Investorfile’s small cap value stock picks, the final investment results say otherwise, due to a very strong finish.

Since inception, our selection of 20 small cap value stock picks to date has delivered a total average return of 272%, which is up 47% from the same group of stocks in 2018. When we compare this to the S&P/TSX Small Cap Index, which posted a gain of 12.8% in 2019, and the S&P/TSX Venture Exchange Composite Index, which was up of 3.65% in 2019, Investorfile’s basket of Top Ideas significantly outperformed the comparable market indices.

The high point (highest stock price close) average return for all of our Top Ideas since the inception of the Investorfile blog rose to 318% by the end of 2019, compared to 271% at the end of 2018. This was driven by several Investorfile stocks that hit all-time highs over the past year.

Since December 2011, Investorfile has documented 20 picks that, to date, make up our list of Top Ideas – Small Cap Value stocks. This summarizes the performance of our Top Ideas over the past eight years:

• Average high-point returns based on highest closing stock price equals 318%
• Average current returns to date (which includes all dividends paid) equals 272%
